This weekend is the annual Tramlines music festival in Sheffield. And I am proud to announce that I will be one of the official photographers for the festival! To say that I am excited is an understatement. 800 bands and artists will be playing over the weekend and it will be my job to capture as many of them as I can.
When I was a teenager and then until my mid 20s I was a frequent gig goer and I read the NME and Melody Maker every week. I was always in awe of the gig photography of the likes of Kevin Cummins and I never in a million years would have imagined that over 20 years later I would get the chance to replicate the types of shots I saw every week by Cummins et al.
So I am relishing the opportunity and aim to try to capture as many great shots as I can. It will be tough, especially as I have only done gig photography once, back in March, but I will give it my best shot
I thought I would post some of my favourite gig photos by Cummins to serve as an inspiration. If mine are half as good as these I think I will be doing well!
