As regular readers will know, I try to enter the AVForums monthly photo competition. This month the theme is adversity.
I really struggled to come up with an idea and was worried that I wouldn't be able to take a shot for the comp, especially as the closing date is Monday evening. But this afternoon I headed over to Jacobs, a camera shop just off The Moor, a pedestrian shopping area in Sheffield. I noticed the old Woolworths shop. Luckily I had my camera with me as I wanted to try out some 50mm lenses in the shop. So I snapped away for a while and got 4 half-decent shots.
It's a bit sad really to see how derelict the shop has become in just a couple months or so since it shut. I remember buying singles and pick 'n' mix when I was a kid / teenager so Woolies was an integral part of my childhood. But things move on and they weren't able to unfortunately. Definitely a victim of adversity.
Here are some more shots of Woolies:
Unfortunately Jacobs didn't have either the Canon 50 1.4 or the Sigma 50 1.4 in stock so it was a wasted journey from that point of view. But at least I got some shots.
